Kujukuri is a 60-kilometer Pacific beach — one of Japan's longest stretches of open ocean coastline — and the surf culture along it is the most developed in the Kanto region outside Shonan. The summer months bring Tokyo crowds and the beach towns have a relaxed, vacation-mode social openness that's different from the rest of Chiba. Foreign surfers are a known quantity here and the surf community is the natural social entry point. Outside summer the regular surf community is still active.

Outside the surf and beach community the towns are agricultural and quiet. The foreign presence is small but visible in the surf scene. Good if that's your thing, limited if it isn't.
