Oma is a remote fishing port at the very northernmost tip of Honshu, famous for its bluefin tuna caught by single-line fishing — the tuna here can fetch millions of yen at Tokyo auction. The town has real pride around this, and the tuna culture creates some genuine energy during the fishing season. But it's one of the most isolated communities on the main island, and the social infrastructure for outsiders beyond eating great tuna is zero. A tuna pilgrimage is worth it; anything social is not.

Oma is literally the northernmost point of Honshu — a remote tuna-fishing village at the end of a long peninsula road. The ferry to Hakodate in Hokkaido is here, which gives it some transit function, but socially it's a dead end. The population is tiny, the community is fishing-family oriented, and there's no scene here whatsoever for a foreign man. Come for the tuna sashimi, leave the same day.
