Ugo is a small town in the Ogachi district, and it's primarily known within Japan for the Nishimonai Bon Odori festival — one of Japan's three great Bon dances, held every August, where performers wear either anonymous woven-straw hats or black cloth face coverings that completely obscure their identity. The anonymity tradition is specific and genuinely eerie in the best way. During festival week the town gets an influx of domestic Japanese visitors and the social environment opens up significantly.
