Tokoname is one of Japan's ancient ceramic cities — Tokoname-yaki (especially the clay teapots) has a thousand-year history and the city still has working kilns along the famous red-brick chimney district and cat statue street. The city also hosts Chubu Centrair International Airport on a reclaimed island off its coast, which means international traveler traffic and airport-adjacent economic activity that normalizes international contact.
