High score (8-10) · Your profile
Dehradun has a good social foundation — as the capital and home to IMA, FRI, and multiple universities, there's a real educated professional and student population with more social mobility than the hill state's rural reputation implies. The Mussoorie connection gives the city a leisure-culture layer with hill station social energy. Rishikesh's international yoga and spiritual tourism circuit draws a specific demographic of Western women who are already in an open, exploratory headspace. For the right kind of man who fits that scene, Rishikesh specifically punches high.
Mid score (6-8)
Uttarakhand is divided between its rapidly growing Dehradun corridor and the high-altitude Garhwal and Kumaon hills that are primarily religious pilgrimage routes (Char Dham) and trekking territory. Haridwar's sacred character makes it a poor social destination. Rishikesh has the yoga crowd but it's a specific niche. The state's geography limits it to Dehradun as a real social base. Manageable expectations if you're in the right place.
Lower score (below 6)
The Char Dham pilgrimage circuit — Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, Yamunotri — draws millions of religious Hindu pilgrims who are there for spiritual purpose, not social interaction. The mountain villages of Garhwal and Kumaon are conservative hill communities with very little interface with outsiders. Outside Dehradun and Rishikesh, Uttarakhand doesn't offer what you're looking for.
