MadhyaPradesh
8.2
High score (8-10) · Your profile
Indore is quietly one of India's most liveable and fastest-growing cities with a serious food culture and a growing startup scene — the social infrastructure is better than its tier-2 status suggests, with actual bars, active app use, and a professional class that's grown significantly in the last decade. MP's large student population (Indore, Bhopal, and Gwalior all have major universities) creates a demographic that's more open than the state's rural conservatism implies. Bhopal as a state capital has government-educated women who are often more worldly than they appear. Foreign men are genuinely rare here and the novelty plays well.
Mid score (6-8)
Madhya Pradesh is the geographic heart of India and has a massive rural majority that runs on highly conservative Hindu caste culture — the tribal belt (Baiga, Gond communities) is a completely different world that operates outside any framework you'd apply. Even in the cities the social scene is thinner than equivalently-sized cities in South India. Indore is the exception worth knowing about. Manage expectations heavily based on location.
Lower score (below 6)
MP's smaller cities and towns — Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Ujjain — are deeply traditional, highly religious centers where conservative social norms are enforced strongly. Ujjain specifically is one of Hinduism's holiest cities where the culture is overtly pious. Outside the Indore-Bhopal urban corridor, this state doesn't offer what you're looking for. Hard pass outside those two cities.
