Ogooué-Ivindo is rainforest country in northeastern Gabon, home to Lopé and Ivindo national parks, and if you're a foreign man in conservation, research, or ecotourism, this is one of the few places in Central Africa where that profile carries genuine social respect. Makokou is the provincial capital but the real action for outsiders is around the park research stations where an unusual concentration of international scientists and NGO workers creates a genuine social environment.
