New Asyut City is one of Egypt's planned satellite cities, built on desert land west of the old city as part of the national program to decongest Nile Valley urban centers. As with most Egyptian new cities, it's still in the build-out phase with large infrastructure but thin population density — which means wide roads, newer buildings, and far less of the social friction you get in the old city.
