Marsa Alam is the best dive destination on the Egyptian Red Sea — dugongs at Marsa Abu Dabbab, hammerheads at Elphinstone, spinner dolphins at Sataya — and the dive community here is tight-knit international Europeans who live the same life you do. The resort compounds are genuinely upscale and low-density compared to Hurghada's sprawl, which means better quality interactions with fewer tourists competing for them. Foreign men in good shape who dive or freedive are in their element here. The Egyptian staff at the resorts are some of the most polished in the country.

Marsa Alam works if you're a diver and you're comfortable with the resort-bubble model — step outside the compound walls and it's a small, conservative Egyptian town with nothing much happening. The airport brings direct charter flights from Europe so there's always a rotation of tourists, but the scene resets every week when flights come and go. Social dynamics are real but time-compressed. Good for a focused trip, less good if you want to build anything over time.
