Palanda is a coffee and cattle canton in the southern highlands of Zamora-Chinchipe — small agricultural towns, conservative Catholic values, and a social calendar that runs on church schedules and harvest cycles. There is no social infrastructure for an outsider here. The area around Valladolid draws occasional trekkers heading south toward Peru, but that's passing traffic with no social residue. Foreign man or not, you're an outsider in a place where everyone's family is their entire social world.

Better for a slow-travel detox than any kind of social agenda.
