Chinchipe's capital Zumba sits 4-5 hours south of Zamora on winding mountain roads, making it genuinely cut off from everything. The economy is cattle and coffee, and the social scene is what you'd expect from that — agricultural rhythms, early nights, church on Sundays. Being foreign is an extreme novelty in Zumba because almost no foreigners ever come through. That novelty still doesn't translate into social opportunity when the dating pool is people who've never left the valley and have no frame of reference for what you represent.
