Gualaquiza is a small mining and agricultural town at the southern end of the province, where artisanal gold operations and longstanding Shuar territorial disputes are more defining features than any social scene. The town center has basic services but nothing for an outsider to engage with beyond the market and a few cantinas that cater to locals and miners. Mestizo settlers and Shuar communities here don't mix much with each other, let alone with foreigners passing through. There's no reason to come here unless you're directly involved in the gold sector.
