A foreign man who knows that history and references it earns immediate credibility and opens conversations that wouldn't happen otherwise. The town has a small-city pride rooted in that faded grandeur and the cultural consciousness runs deeper than in the purely agricultural cantons. Still a poor agricultural town today, but the historical identity gives you a real entry point.
