General Antonio Elizalde, known locally as Bucay, sits at the foot of the Andes where the coastal highway meets the cloud forest descent — the scenery alone marks it as distinct from the flat Guayas interior. It's a small but genuine tourist stop for Ecuadorians doing the Guayaquil–Riobamba train route and the zip-line and rafting operators in the area give it more outside-facing infrastructure than comparable cantons.
