Arzew has no real case to be made as a social destination — it's the industrial core of Algeria's gas export infrastructure, home to Sonatrach's main LNG terminal and one of the largest petrochemical complexes in Africa. Foreign workers who come here on oil and gas contracts are the main outsider presence and they live in company accommodation largely separate from the local community.
