Lower score (below 6)
Dellys is one of the oldest continuously inhabited ports in Algeria — Phoenician and Roman remains underlie the old medina, and the Ottoman-era harbor still functions as a small fishing port. That history gives it texture but not social openness: it's a tightly knit, traditional fishing community where families have lived for generations and the social fabric is correspondingly closed. The old medina is architecturally interesting but in disrepair. A foreign man here will be noticed immediately and will not find a way in socially. Worth seeing the harbor once; not a base.
