Akbou is the main commercial hub of the upper Soummam valley with a real weekly market, some light industry, and enough economic activity that the town has actual foot traffic and a functional café culture. The Soummam valley connectivity means people come in from surrounding villages regularly, so there's more social mix than in the isolated mountain communes. A well-presented foreign man who speaks French will get conversation and some curiosity-driven openness here that doesn't exist in the villages.
