Regensburg is one of the genuinely underrated cities in Germany — the largest intact medieval city in Germany (UNESCO World Heritage), Universität Regensburg (22,000 students), a BMW plant plus the Siemens and Toshiba infrastructure that's made it a real tech and industrial hub, and a compact old town with a legendary nightlife strip on the Steinway and Keplerstraße. The student-to-resident ratio is excellent (22,000 students in a city of 160,000). Regensburg women are educated and have a direct Bavarian/Upper Palatinate manner that's more honest than Munich's performance. The summer Danube social culture — bars, restaurants, and people spilling onto the bridges — is particularly open to strangers.
