Calima-Darién is built around Lago Calima, one of the best windsurfing lakes in South America — the Viento de Calima is a reliable afternoon thermal that draws serious wind sports athletes from across the continent. That sports culture brings a younger, more adventurous crowd than the typical Valle small town and creates natural conversation entry points. The lake town of Darién has restaurants and lodging oriented toward weekenders from Cali. For an active foreign man, this is one of the more interesting micro-destinations in the department.

Calima works well on weekends when Caleños flood in for water sports and the town has real energy. On weekdays it's quiet and the social scene largely disappears. Calima outside of peak weekends and holidays is a dead town.
