Cajamarca sits on the main Bogotá-Cali highway just west of Ibagué and earns its reputation as Colombia's agricultural pantry — the produce trucks running through here supply Bogotá's markets daily. In 2017 the town held Colombia's first popular consultation vote and blocked a Canadian gold mining project, making it briefly famous nationally. It's a transit-and-farming town though, not a social destination, and most of the action happens on the highway strip.
