Sibundoy is the main commercial town of the Valle de Sibundoy at 2,100m and the most functional place in the highland portion of Putumayo, with a real market, basic hotels, and some outside interest driven by the valley's reputation for Inga and Kamëntšá medicinal plant traditions. It's still small and conservative — the social scene is limited and women here are traditional in a way that slows things down considerably. But a foreign man is genuinely unusual here, and that novelty does create openings that don't exist in more traveled Colombian cities. Workable as a base for exploring the highland Putumayo, not a destination in itself.
