Puerto Asís is the commercial center of lowland Putumayo — it has actual hotels, a waterfront on the Putumayo River, and the most functional urban infrastructure in the region outside of Mocoa. The economy runs on oil, coca, and cross-border trade with Ecuador, which means money moves but instability comes with it. Foreign men are rare enough to draw curiosity but the city's hardened frontier character means social dynamics are guarded — women here are used to tough local men and outside novelty doesn't move the needle much. Useful as a transit hub, not a place to plant a flag.
