Cácota sits at high altitude in the Pamplona subregion — cold climate, small population, and almost no tourism whatsoever. What it has is a tight community where a foreign man stands out completely and genuine hospitality is the default. The Andean culture here is more reserved than lowland Colombia but once you're in, you're really in. The altitude and scenery make it a legitimately interesting place to spend a few days while working through the Pamplona highlands.
