Guainía
8.3
High score (8-10) · Your profile
Inírida sits at the confluence of the Guaviare and Inírida rivers and is about as far off the beaten path as you can get in Colombia — reached only by small plane, with near-zero tourism and indigenous communities that make up a significant portion of the local population. Men who make it here are by definition adventurous and that profile carries real weight. The tepuis and river landscapes are some of the most spectacular in South America.
Mid score (6-8)
Guainía is one of Colombia's most isolated and sparsely populated departments — Inírida has a few thousand people and essentially no tourist infrastructure. The social environment is limited by sheer lack of population density. Worth it as a wilderness destination, not as anything else.
Lower score (below 6)
Guainía is not a social destination by any stretch — it's a remote Amazonian department with minimal population, no infrastructure, and access only by charter flight. The only reason to go is the natural environment and even that requires significant planning. Not applicable as a social travel destination.
