Timbiquí on the Pacific coast is one of the strongest marimba and chigualo tradition zones in Colombia — alongside Guapí, it's at the heart of the UNESCO-recognized Pacific coast Afro-Colombian music heritage. But getting here means a boat from Buenaventura or López de Micay (both serious security risks on the rivers) or a charter flight, and the armed group competition over the river corridors here has been among the most intense in Cauca. The communities are surviving under sustained pressure. This is not a destination.
