Timbío sits 12km south of Popayán on the road to El Tambo, and it's increasingly absorbed into Popayán's suburban expansion — a commuter municipality where people who work in the capital are choosing to live as Popayán's housing costs creep up. It has its own commercial strip and some agricultural identity in the surrounding coffee veredas. As a base it's functional but everything social points back to Popayán. The specialty coffee scene in the surrounding area has attracted some roaster attention.
