Villa de Leyva is the most socially accessible destination in all of Boyacá for a foreign man and one of the better options in the Colombian highlands overall. The town is one of Colombia's official National Monuments — its cobblestone plaza is one of the largest in South America and the colonial architecture is entirely preserved — which brings a constant flow of Colombian upper-middle-class tourists, expats from Bogotá, and international visitors year-round. The weekend hostel culture, the craft beer bars, the wine bar scene, and the mix of Bogotá professionals escaping the city create a social environment unlike anything else in the department. A well-presented foreign man speaks Spanish here and finds women who are open, educated, and accustomed to meeting outsiders.
