Güicán is the other gateway town to the Sierra Nevada del Cocuy trek — actually the original entry point before El Cocuy became the main hub — and shares that adventure tourism identity. The trekking draws outsiders from across Colombia and internationally, creating a hostel culture and social environment that's unusual for rural Boyacá. The Guane indigenous heritage adds a cultural layer. Adventure tourists, whether Colombian or foreign, mix more easily here than in any other context in the department. A foreign man who treks and engages authentically will find this one of Boyacá's best social environments.
