Turbaco is essentially a suburb of Cartagena — 15km from the city center — but maintains its own municipal identity with a distinct working-class costeño character that's completely different from tourist Cartagena. Women here are Cartagena-adjacent in terms of coastal warmth and openness but have none of the tourist-market social conditioning. The Jardín Botánico de Turbaco (one of Colombia's oldest) and the plaza culture give natural social contexts.
