Tubará sits in the hills above the Caribbean coast between Barranquilla and Juan de Acosta — an elevated, cooler setting that gives it a different feel from the flat coastal lowlands. The municipality has indigenous Mokaná heritage, which is one of the few remaining indigenous communities in the Atlántico department, and the local cultural identity is distinct from standard Costeño culture. A foreign man here is genuinely unusual and the curiosity is warm. The cooler temperatures make it more comfortable than the coast during the hottest months.
