Sabanalarga is the largest interior municipality of Atlántico — outside Barranquilla — and functions as a genuine secondary city for the department with its own commercial district, nightlife zone, and social scene. The Festival del Burro held here annually is a legitimately famous Colombian cultural event that draws national attention. Women here have the full Costeña social personality and the city is large enough to have a bar and club scene worth spending time in. The economic differential between foreign and local incomes is substantial.
