Envigado is where serious Medellín-area residents who've done their homework end up living — it's a fully autonomous municipality that borders Medellín's El Poblado zone but has its own city government, cheaper rents, better local services, and a more authentic Colombian character. The social infrastructure matches Medellín's best neighborhoods without the tourist markup. Envigado has genuinely excellent restaurants, a lively plaza area around Parque El Olímpico, and a population that's educated, stylish, and less jaded by foreign tourists than Poblado.
