A foreign man here with resources and a clear reason to be there — fishing industry, NGO work, border trade — is genuinely unusual and the economic gap works strongly in his favor. Church networks and local trading families are the social entry points, and showing up through one of those channels makes you a known quantity quickly. That said, the conditions are basic and the social depth is limited by the small population.
