Hauts-Plateaux is the smallest and least-known division in the West Region, which is exactly what makes it interesting — the area around Penka-Michel and Fongo-Tongo has some of the most dramatic highland scenery in Cameroon without any of the foreigners who show up in Bafoussam. The coffee-growing villages here have a quiet prosperity to them that makes people less transactionally oriented than in poorer areas.
