DongaMantung
8.1
High score (8-10) · Your profile
Donga-Mantung has no warm scenario for a foreign man — this is one of the most isolated corners of Cameroon.
Mid score (6-8)
Nkambe sits at high altitude near the Nigerian border and is a full grueling day's drive from Bamenda on roads that wash out completely in rainy season. The Wimbum people here have their own language and governance structures, and the area has been economically cut off by the Anglophone conflict reducing what little cross-border trade existed. There are no hotels worth the name, no scene, and no infrastructure for visitors. Foreign men don't come to Donga-Mantung unless they are researchers, missionaries, or have family ties.
Lower score (below 6)
Nkambe sits at high altitude near the Nigerian border and is one of the hardest places to reach in Cameroon — a full day on roads that wash out in rainy season, if they're passable at all. The Wimbum community here has its own language and tight social structures, and the Anglophone conflict has further isolated the area by cutting off what little cross-border commerce with Nigeria existed. There are no hotels, no scene, no expat presence of any kind, and no reason for an outsider to be there that the community won't immediately interrogate. This is among the most logistically and socially impenetrable divisions in the country.
