Wenzhou is China's most famous city of private enterprise and has the highest concentration of internationally traveled locals in Zhejiang — there are Wenzhounese communities in Paris, Milan, Madrid, and New York, and many women here have relatives or have personally lived abroad. That international exposure creates a social openness toward foreign men that's qualitatively different from cities where foreigners are just novelties.
