Suzhou's Suzhou Industrial Park is one of the largest concentrations of foreign companies in China, which means a functioning expat ecosystem — international bars, English menus, multinational colleagues — that gives you instant social infrastructure. The combination of a genuine expat scene and a local population that's used to interacting with foreigners but hasn't fully priced it in the way Shanghai has makes Suzhou the sleeper pick in Jiangsu. The canal districts actually give you good date logistics: small bars, boat rides, evening walks.
