There is no realistic warm scenario for Daxing'anling. This is one of the most remote administrative prefectures in China — boreal taiga covering an area larger than many European countries, with a population density so low that entire counties have fewer residents than a mid-sized apartment building elsewhere. The economy runs on logging (now heavily restricted) and border forestry management. A foreign man here would be an extreme curiosity but the pool of people to meet is vanishingly small and spread across hundreds of kilometers of forest.
