Qingyang sits on the Loess Plateau in the far east of Gansu where the province meets Shaanxi and Ningxia, and it's been an oil-producing and historically poverty-designated region for decades. Rural exodus has hollowed out much of the under-40 population. The dramatic loess gully terrain is photogenic but there's no tourism infrastructure and no social scene. One of the harder places in Gansu to get any traction as a foreign man.
