Belém is the gateway city of the Amazon and has a real urban social scene — Ver-o-Peso market, the Estação das Docas waterfront district, and a nightlife corridor that runs through Umarizal and Batista Campos neighborhoods. The city has a distinct Amazonian identity and the women here are a genuine mix of Indigenous, African, and Portuguese heritage that's unlike anything in southern Brazil. Foreign men are not overwhelmingly common outside of specific zones, so the novelty still carries real value while the infrastructure to actually do something with it exists.
