Tiradentes is one of the best small towns in all of Brazil for a foreign profile — a colonial heritage gem that draws affluent Brazilians from São Paulo and Rio on weekends, with a permanent population that has completely adapted to cultural tourism and international visitors. The gastronomy festival (Festival de Gastronomia) is nationally famous. The pousadas are upscale, the restaurants are excellent, and the social environment is relaxed and open by design. One of the few small interior Brazilian cities where meeting educated, interesting people from major cities is nearly guaranteed.
