That world still technically exists but is massively diminished by the security crisis, with the eastern areas now among the most dangerous in the country due to active jihadist presence. The potential was real; the current reality makes this region essentially off-limits for non-essential travel.

Whatever social scene existed here has been displaced by the conflict.
